Shummell, George (1823?-Oct 17, 1910)

George Shummell died Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wm. Westphal, northwest of the city, at the age of 87 years.  He was born in Germany and came to this country when a small boy.  He was married to Charlotte Buss and to this union seven children were born, two of whom have joined their mother in death.  The surviving children are George, James, Dan, Elizabeth and Esther.  Mr. Shummell’s second wife also survives him.

Mr. Shummell has been in poor health for some years, but previous to his incapacity had demonstrated himself as an energetic and hardworking man.  The funeral was held at the Ridge church yesterday, Rev. Burrows officiating.
