Gleanings 

 

Jos DeLano is raising his house another story to make more room.

 

Jas. Bibby has gotten out bills advertising to sell his stock, tools, household goods, etc., at auction on Friday, Nov. 9. He is getting ready to go west.

 

Fritz Goritz is rejoicing over the advent of a big baby boy at his home Sunday, Oct 21.

 

Anna Riese and brother, Peter, came over from Marshfield for a visit with the Volk family the first of the week.

 

P. F. Lantz sends word that he has had to postpone his auction which was advertised to come off last Tuesday, until Wednesday, Nov. 7, at ten o'clock. It is probably owing to the rain which came at the wrong time for him.

 

A boy was born to Ed Buker and wife Thursday, Oct 25. Mother and child are doing well.

 

There need be no fear of Greenwood becoming a one man town, when Chris. Kippenhan, with his son-in-law, keeps on putting up houses and buying lots. We wish more of our citizens had as much of a building spirit as is manifested by this family.

 

Chas. Pratt has such a beautiful corn harvest that he has been obliged to build a new corn crib and it’s a good one too.

 

John Coons shipped a carload of baled hay to the southern part of the state Monday.

 

Mrs. Engbretson went over to Greenwood Friday night for a short visit with friends--Loyal Chronicle.

 

Martin Jenkins and family have moved up from Brothertown and located on the Ed Fahey place which they have rented.  He and his son George have purchased a 160 acres of timber land near there and in due time they will have a home of their own make.

 

Leonard Shanks was unfortunate enough Wednesday morning to cut his left leg quite severely with an adz. He is able to get around, however, and is working on the Rossman blacksmith shop.

 

Mrs. Jeanette Dunn of Ripon, arrived Thursday evening of last week for a visit with H. N. Ware and wife.

 

August Meier had a narrow escape while working on the roof of Bauman's house Tuesday. It was wet and his feet slipped letting him down head first. He struck the ladder which turned him over twice while he fell to the ground twenty feet below. Though is looked as if he would be killed, in twenty minutes he was up on the roof at work again.

 

Mrs. E. T. Burch and Edna went to Colby Tuesday morning to visit with her sister, Mrs Robinson, and brother Kinzie Andrews.

 

E. H. Thompson enjoyed a pleasant walk to Loyal and back Sunday.

 

The King's Daughters meet at the home of Mrs. J. E. Noyes next Tuesday afternoon a 2 o'clock.

 

Married--Oct 29, by Rev. W. T. Hendren at Greenwood, Wisc., C. H. Ide and Miss Eilen M. Covey, both of Granton.

 

C. P. Hogue was down from Perkinstown the first of the week for a visit with home folks.

 

August Bauman is getting his house well up with the shingles mostly on. It is large and when completed will be a valuable addition to the neighborhood.

 

There will be a chicken pie supper at Mr. Kelley's Friday evening of this week. A cordial invitation is extended to all. A team will be provided for those wishing to go.

 

Baxter Marvin and Lew Wilson are home again.

 

Frank Norris, half brother of Jas. W. Norris, is visiting him.

 

John Bryden is bound to keep up with the procession in the way of improvements, and has laid a new walk from the street to his hotel. A better improvement, is the hot water heating system he is having put into his place. W. W. Taplin of Neillsville, is the workman.

 

A party, composed of Dave Shanks, Forest Shanks, Will Dawes, Herbert White, John Booth and Will Hogue left the first of the week with Morris Markham as driver, for the northern woods to hunt deer.

 

E. Bowen and Wm. Johnston drove over from Greenwood Thursday morning and spent the day with Kinzie Andrews and Mrs. Robinson--Colby Phonograph.

 

The Medford Star and News said last week, that "P. E. Peterson of Greenwood was in town Wednesday." Peter is on the wing most of the time now-a-days, looking after bids which he is buying for Milwaukee parties. Guy and Roy DeLano are likewise engaged this fall.

 

John Memhard returned Friday from a visit with his family in Chicago.

 

Ranson Peterson and crew are laying a stone cellar wall under the DeLano building, known as the Bailey building. The stormy weather makes it slow work.

 

The Ladies' Guild met last week at the home of Mrs. H. Johnson. The following delegates were elected for the Annual Unitarian Convention to be held at Neillsville: Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Thompson, Mrs. E. Wigderson, Mrs. Palms, Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Baker. Lunch was served and a good time was enjoyed by all.

 

G. M. Willis went to Minneapolis the first of the week.

 

C. H. Estabrooks went over to Marshfield yesterday.

 

Henry Tooley is stopping at the home of Dan Cook.

 

Bennie Johnson has resigned his position in the Big Store's hardware department. He has worked there steadily for seven months and feels pretty well worked out. He will likely take up his high school course.

 

Wm Youngs returned Monday morning from a trip to the southern part of the state where he has been looking at some farms.

 

Geo. A. Thompson went over to Marshfield yesterday to meet his wife who comes to join her family.
