Buchholz, Alice Marie (Marriage - 10 July 1954)

In a ceremony performed Saturday evening, July 10, at the Christie Methodist Church, Alice Marie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Buchholz, Neillsville, became the bride of Gerald Robert Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Smith of Neillsville.

The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Arthur Riley at a seven o’clock candlelight service.

Baskets of white gladioli and candles decorated the altar. Candles decorated the aisles.  The pews were tied with ribbons and sweet peas.

Mary Ann Smith was nuptial soloist, accompanied by Miss Verna Schaefer at the organ.

The bride, escorted to the flower-decked altar by her father, wore imported Chantilly lace and nylon over satin, with a rounded yoke effect and a small Peter Pan Chantilly lace collar.  The dress was complemented by short sleeves and a full length train of Chantilly lace and nylon net. The lace formed points over the front skirt and continued down as a train.

She carried a white satin fan, centered with an orchid with pink rosebuds radiating outward.

The bride was attended by her sister, Martha Buchholz, as maid of honor. She wore a white strapless dress with lace bodice and net over taffeta skirt.  The dress was complete with a short lace jacket, having a mandarin collar.

Her bridesmaids were Viola Buchholz, Roberta Kurth and Eileen Buchholz, who wore gowns identical to that of the maid of honor in green, yellow and orchid respectively.

The groom was attended by Gary Mills and Richard Buchholz as groomsmen.  Glenn Short and Arnold Buchholz ushered.

A reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents for approximately 90 guests.

The wedding trip will be to points of interest en route to Portsmouth, Va., where the groom is stationed with the navy, and where the young people will be at home after July 24.

The bride and groom are both graduates of the Neillsville High School.  Mrs. Smith has been employed in the Badger State Telephone office and the groom expects to be with that organization after the completion of his naval service.

Out of town guests attending the ceremony were: Mr. and Mrs. Sheridan Bracken, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Moldenhauer, Tomah; Mrs. Minnie Krueger, Milwaukee; Shirley Magnuson, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Leonhardt, Abbotsford, and Mrs. Alma May, Greenwood.
