Van Ert, Peter (24 FEB 1869 - 7 MAR 1955)


Peter Van Ert, 86, died early Monday morning, March 7th, 1955 at his farm home in Eidsvold (Clark Co., Wis.), where he had been a resident for the past 58 years.


Funeral services will be held at 9:30 this morning (Thursday) at St. Mary’s Church in Stanley with Rev. Ralph Geissler officiating.


He was born in Holland Town, Wis. on Feb. 24, 1869.  He married Anna Smith 62 years ago in Rushville, Nebr.  They resided there a short time and then moved to Turtle Lake, Wis., where they lived for three years.


Fifty-eight eyars ago they moved here to the Town of Thorp near the North Forck River and where they have since resided.  He served one term as justice of the peace of Thorp township in 1910, and was also clerk of the Eidsvold School for about six years.  He also operated the Midway Dance Hall on the border of his farm for several years in the 20’s.


His wife preceded him in death on Dec. 19, 1951.  He is survived by eight sons and two daughters, Louis of Stanley, Ed, Benn, Wilfred, Leonard and Albert of Milwaukee, Leo of Marshfield and Don of Tampa, Fla., (Olive) Mrs. Geo. Seidl of St. Paul, Minn., and (Margaret) Mrs. Frank Endvick of Brill, Wis.  Also survived by 43 grand and 29 great-grandchildren.


Burial was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Stanley.
