Stow, Rhoda Jane  (23 FEB 1856-22 JAN 1947)

Rhoda Jane Stow was born on Feb. 23, 1856, in Washington county, and went to her rest on Jan. 22, 1947, at the Paradise Valley sanitarium in National City, Cal., having reached the advanced age of 90 years and 11 months. She was married to Chester G. Stow on Dec. 23, 1875, at Auburn. To this union there were born four children, Lewis, who died in infancy, Hugo F., who died at the age of 29 years, Edwin F, and Iva Dell.

Following her marriage, she lived in the vicinity of Loyal for 30 years, or until her husband’s death. Through the efforts of her husband’s family, she became a member of the Adventist church more than 55 years ago. In 1905 she was left a widow and soon after was called to be matron of the Madison sanitarium, being employed there until shortly before going to ST. Helena, Cal., where she joined the sanitarium family, remaining there for 33years.

In 1941 her daughter, Mrs. J. T. Thompson, and her husband returned from 27 years of service in the mission fields, so she went to live with them at Loma Linda, Cal. In December, 1945, the family moved to National City, where she was to spend her last days.

Besides a large number of friends, she leaves a son, a daughter, three granddaughters and five great-grandsons to  Mourn her loss.

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Stow in California, and her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Stow brought the body to Loyal for burial.

Short services were held at the cemetery here on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 29, by the Rev. Lee H. Holmes. Mrs. Ray Prior sang "Rock of Ages." Mrs. Stow was laid to rest beside her husband.

Those from away who attended the services at the cemetery, besides Mr. and Mrs. Stow, were Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Graves and Mrs. Foster Mellhattan of Spencer and Mr., and Mrs. Dave Irvine and Quentin Irvine and daughter of Greenwood. Several old friends from the vicinity also attended.

Serving as pallbearers here were Ray Prior, Herbert White, Raymond Colby, James White, J. R. Colby and Claire Lyon.
