Gehrt, Everett Frank (5 April 1916 - 22 February 2010)

Everett F. Gehrt, 93, of Loyal died at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen Monday, Feb. 22, 2010.

Everett Frank Gehrt was born April 5, 1916, in the Town of Levis, Clark County, the son of Harry and Marie (Baumel) Gehrt.  He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the Columbia area. Everett was united in marriage to Jannette K. Buelow Nov. 18, 1942, at her parent’s farm in the Town of York.  They farmed in the Pine Valley area until 1948 and then bought a farm south of Loyal.  They retired from farming in 1983, sold the farm and moved to Loyal.  His wife, Jannette, died April 15, 2002.  Everett continued to reside in Loyal until moving to the Clark County Health Care Center Jan. 2, 2007.

He was an active member of the Loyal United Methodist Church, where he served on the Trustee and Finance committees, was Ad Council chairperson, taught Sunday school and was a member of the church’s men’s group.  Everett also worked at the Loyal Recycling center, served as the sexton of the Loyal Cemetery and was on the cemetery board for many years.

He had many interests but loved spending time with his grandchildren, woodworking, welding, farming, polka music, traveling, playing cards, and he always enjoyed a good joke.

Everett is survived by his son, Carl Gehrt of Loyal; daughter-in-law, Cindy Gehrt of Loyal; two granddaughters, Lena Gehrt of Marshfield and Megan (Lance) Hahn of Loyal; one great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Hahn; and a sister-in-law, Alice Gehrt of Wisconsin Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jannette; a daughter, Karen, in infancy; and two brothers, Harlan and Walter Gehrt.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at the Loyal United Methodist Church in Loyal. Rev. Mike Herdt officiated, and burial followed in the Loyal Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Scott Hunt, Jesse Zvolena, Jerry Noeldner, Tom Pagenkopf, Gordy Noeldner and Chuck Butterbrodt.  Visitation was held at the church Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
