Vachon, Armidas H. (1 MAR 1876 - 17 JUL 1955)

The body of Armidas Herman Vachon, a former Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) resident, was returned here for final rites and burial at Riverside Cemetery Wednesday morning.  Despite his advanced age of 79 years, 4 months and 16 days, the deceased had been enjoying good health until just a few days previous to his death.  He had left his home at Soperton, Wis., to enter Wis. General Hospital at Madison where he submitted to major surgery which had been termed successful, but then late Sunday night a blood clot proved to be fatal.

Armidas Vachon was born on Mar. 1, 1876, at St. Alfred, Ontario, Canada.  He came to the United States as a young man and on the 31st of December, 1898, was united in marriage to Clotchide LaMarche, at a ceremony performed at Minocqua, Wis.  In 1916 he and his family came to Owen where he was employed as head sawyer with the John S. Owen Lumber Co., holding this position for 14 years.  Later when the lumbering industry in this community was giving way to dairying he and his family left the city, going to Soperton, Wis., where he continued his trade with a lumbering firm in that community and had since made his home since his retirement several years ago.

Mourning his passing are his wife, one son, Edmond of Chicago, Ill.; six daughters, Mrs. Emil (Elizabeth) Hansen, City; Mrs. Edna Spaulding and Mrs. Elda Clifton, Madison; Mrs. Nelita Rysku, Wabeno, Wis.; Mrs. George (Beatrice) Crowe, Superior; and Mrs. Herman (Vera) Newman, Owen; one brother, Daniel Vachon of Rhinelander and 27 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning from the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Owen, with Fr. Crubel officiating.  Serving as pallbearers were Joe Seufzer, William Warns, Ray Conzemius and John Kovaloski, Herbie Lehnen and John Greschner.
