Anderson, Gust (15 Aug 1844 - 7 Jan 1913)

Gust Anderson met with an accident Tuesday evening which resulted in his death.  In descending the cellar steps at his saloon he tripped and fell down stairs in such a manner as to break his neck, and death was practically instantaneous.  The accident was witnessed by Fred Nemitz, who had just entered the saloon as Mr. Anderson was starting down the stairs, and when Mr. Nemitz heard Mr. Anderson fall he called assistance at once and a doctor was hastily summoned.  Mr. Anderson had been to the bank late in the afternoon and in replenishing the fire in the basement seemed to have dropped his pocketbook, and it was to find it that he was about to make the second trip to the basement.

Mr. Anderson was born in Sweden, August 15, 1844, and came to the United States in 1871, locating at La Crosse.  A short time later he removed to Humbird and about 1879 he came to Neillsville, which place has ever since been his home.  He was united in marriage in 1884 to Augusta Erickson in this city and to this union nine children were born, five of whom, with their mother, survive their father.  The children are Albert, Frank, Elsie, Esther and Victor.  Deceased is also survived by his brother, Peter, of this city, and three brothers and two sisters at Sacramento, Cal.

Mr. Anderson in the years of his residence here, has always demonstrated himself as a man of high integrity and honesty.  He was kindly and charitable in nature, a kind husband and father, and so conducted himself through life that his death is mourned by a large circle of sincere friends.  The arrangements for the funeral have not been made as the Times goes to press.
