Yurkovich, Sylvia (06 NOV 1916 - 10 APRIL 2010)

Sylvia Yurkovich, 93, Willard, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2010,at the Clark County Health Care Center, Owen, where she had been admitted on April 8. As she requested, there will be no services, but a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Sylvia Jelercic was born on Nov. 6, 1916, to Vincent and Mary (nee Fabcic) Jelercic on the farm her parents bought in 1911, after immigrating from Yugoslavia. She was born, raised and lived her entire life on her family farm. She was educated in the Willard area country schools. She married Valentine A. Yurkovich on Dec. 7, 1946, in Neillsville. After their marriage she and her husband took over the family farm. She continued to farm after the death of her husband, with her daughter, Bonnie, and her son and daughter-in-law, Luke and Judy Yurkovich, until retiring at the age of 88.

Her family and dairy farming were her greatest passions. She also enjoyed gardening, baking, listening to her son Richie’s polka band, and traveling with her family to the central and western states, Hawaii, and twice to Europe, visiting relatives in Yugoslavia. She was known as one of Willard’s best Slovenian bakers, especially her apple strudel and potica. She could stretch potica dough from Willard to Greenwood and back without any holes in the dough, it seemed.

She was a member of the Slovene National Benefit Society and the Slovenska Druzba Club. She devoted her entire life to raising her family and the farm. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include her children, Richard (Gabrielle) Yurkovich, Willard, Mary Jo (Dennis) Sischo, Neillsville, Edward (Peggy) Yurkovich, Willard, Kitty (Dale) Wolf, Loyal and Luke (Judy) Yurkovich, Willard. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Aaron (Cheryl) Sischo, Lacey (Stephen) Morris, Amy Yurkovich, Mitch (Charissa) Yurkovich, Kimberly (Michael) Anderson, Phil Yurkovich, Mike Wolf, Nate Wolf, Caroline Wolf, and Brenden Yurkovich; and her great-grandchildren, Brady and Aiden Sischo, Parker,Kamdyn and Teagon Yurkovich, and Zoe Morris.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Valentine, on Oct. 21, 1996; a daughter, Bonnie, on March 4, 2010; a sister, Mary Raik, in 1992; and her parents.
