Marek, Joseph Edward (26 July 1915 - 16 April 2010) With Flag

Joseph Edward Marek, age 94, of Allen Park, Michigan, was embraced by his Savior on April 16, 2010.  Joseph was born on his family farm in Thorp, Wisconsin on July 26, 1915, and was the youngest of seven siblings.  He was the treasured son of the late Paul and Frances (Paczynski) Marek and was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Marie Stipka, Roxie, Rose, Leon, Walter and John.

He worked for several years with the Civilian Conservation Corp in his home state of Wisconsin.  Proudly serving his country in WWII for four years throughout Europe and North Africa, he repaired B-026 Bomber engines with the Army Air Corp.  Upon returning to civilian life, he met, courted and married Yolanda Rembecki of Hamtramck, MI.  He was a beloved husband of 64 years and loving father to James (Sue) and Susan Marek, and cherished Dziadzia to Ryan, Amanda, Brett, Jessica, Drew and Elysse.  His first great-grandchild is expected this May.  He spent many years as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America and retired after 40 years of service with Ford Motor Company.  A funeral liturgy was held April 24 at Holy Cross Polish National Catholic Church, Hamtramck, MI.  Many of his nieces and nephews from Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois attended the Mass and luncheon.  His earthly resting place is at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery.
