Mozdzierz, Edward "Uncle" (3 July 1925 - 18 June 2010)

 

Edward "Uncle" Mozdzierz, 84, of Pittsville died Friday afternoon, June 18, 2010, at his home.

 

Edward was born July 3, 1925, in Spaulding, Jackson County, to Stanley and Anna (Miadowska) Mozdzierz.  He received his education at the Spaulding School.  He married Dorene Kleifgen Nov. 14, 1967, at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Pittsville.

 

Edward started work at the age of 15 for C. L. Jepson, during the war, did Mossing in the City Point area and worked for Smagacz-Michalak Cranberry Marsh and Green Bay and Western Railroad.  In 1955 he began work for Fritz Panter on Indian Creek Cranberry Marsh. The Potters bought the Marsh in 1976, and Ed worked for them until retiring in 1991.

 

Edward was a member of St. Joachim Catholic Church, its Holy Name Society, Maryheart Knights of Columbus, Western Fraternal Life Association and the Yellow River Riders Snowmobile Club.  He will be remembered for his chicken grilling at Harvest Fest and Martyr’s Chapel.  Ed enjoyed weed-free gardening, lawn mowing, polka music, dancing, eating out and going to the casino with his neighbors and building windmills and wishing wells.

 

He is survived by his wife, Dorene, of Pittsville; three sisters, Stella Kucha, Chicago, IL, Eleanor Grimm, Elk Grove Village, IL, and Sophie (Jeff) Bowids, Mesa, AZ; nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marie Novak, and three brothers-in-law.

 

Funeral services took place Tuesday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joachim Catholic Church, Pittsville, with the Rev. Robert W. Nelson officiating. Visitation was from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Buchanan Funeral Home, Pittsville, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

 

Pallbearers were Mike Scheurer, Sr., Mike Scheurer, Jr., Greg Kremer, Ronnie and Matt Cournoyer and Mark Kleifgen. Burial took place at St. Joachim Parish Cemetery.

 

The Buchanan Funeral Home of Pittsville assisted the family with arrangements.
