Schmidt, Josephine Anna (15 June 1925 - 10 July 2010)

Josephine Anna Schmidt passed away peacefully Saturday, July 10, 2010, at her home in Eau Claire.

Josephine was born June 15, 1925, in Loyal to Leander and Julia (Weber) Schuld.  She was raised on a farm and attended the Pleasant View School.  After leaving home, Josephine worked in Chicago, IL, and Milwaukee before she married Louie L. Schmidt July 27, 1946.  Soon after settling in the Eau Claire area, they became charter members of the St. Olaf Catholic Church, where they firmly planted their family values.

Josephine became a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She loved to keep a home comfortable and stylish as well as clean and in order.  Although she regarded herself as rather shy, she still traveled widely throughout the United States, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, even after her beloved Louie passed away.  And, she could never resist a dance, even away from the dance floor. Her feet always seemed to tap wherever there was music, including in her own kitchen, and she could often be heard humming to some happy tune as she worked.

Josephine is survived by her five children, Carolyn (Tim) Peterson of Onalaska, Michael (Sheri) Schmidt of St. Peter, MN, Doulas Schmidt of Eau Claire, Janet (Jack) Bowden of San Ramon, CA and William (Cathy) Schmidt of Bradenton, FL; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; three brothers and a sister, Romaine (Doris) Schuld of South Milwaukee, Gerald (Peggy) Schuld of Sun City West, AZ, David (Lori) Schuld of Sun City, AZ, and Marilyn Miller of Sun City, AZ; and a very dear friend, Romaine Anderson, of Eau Claire.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louie, her parents; a brother, Alfred (Marie) Schuld; and two sisters, Elenora (Frank) Long and Margaret (Norbert) Schlegelmilch.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 15, at St. Olaf Catholic Church with Father Brian Konopa officiating.  Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, with a Prayer service at 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday.

Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services is serving the family.

Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
