Old Timers Gather (California - 3 March 1929)

Baldwin Park, Calif. March 8, 1929

Dear Readers of "The Press":

One of the largest gatherings of Clark Co. people in California was held at Exposition Park on March 3.  Just imagine an ideal June day in Wisconsin and sixty-eight of Clark County’s sons and daughters gathered at the festive board without wraps, enjoying a meal together.

Among the first to arrive were Henry and Adeline Gunderson and Harry Neff and his wife and two children, Arthur and Marie.  Dr. and Mrs. Leason and Jessie Caldwell Fitzpatrick soon arrived and then our load consisting of Flaire Walder and son Shelby and Mr. Altemus and myself.

Over there we spied Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Richards and Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Riedel.  Then here comes a bunch of Slocombs - Ernie and wife and three children, and Miss Lettie and Miss Lydia and Mr. and Mrs. Beglinger.

A tall woman finds her way to me and asks if I know her and after looking her square in the face I said, "You are Frankie Boardman".  I was right.  I had not seen her for at least thirty years.  Her name is now Mrs. Carr.

Mr. and Mrs. George Wilding were there, and what Myron is to the Clark Co. Fair that George is to the Clark County Picnic.  Now here comes one of my old pupils, who won’t tell me her name, but whom I found to be Tena Smalley Mowder.  Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Wren and Frank Wren were there and Fred Ketel and Otto Wolff - all old timers at the picnics.

Finally Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Herian and son Dale and Mr. and Mrs. Rob’t Eunson and son Bobby found their way there.  Mrs. Ethel Playmen from National City arrived just in time to eat before the food was all gone.

There were several new comers - Mr. and Mrs. T. O. Marshall and daughters, Alice and Helen and son Thomas from near Withee; Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Brown from Loyal; Mr. Chas. Withee and wife, Clara Moody Withee; Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Ransimer.

Now come the old familiar faces of Dr. Viola French DeLane and Mr. DeLane, Mrs. Irene French Oakley and Mrs. Nettie Youmans. (I think there must have been more to this but it was missing. Dmk)
