Colby, Joan B. (Marriage - 12 Nov. 1960)
Miss Joan B. Colby was given in marriage by her grand father, Wilbur E. Erwin, to Mr. William A. Gilles, Saturday morning, Nov. 12. The exchange of vows took place at 10 o’clock at St. Anthony’s Catholic church, Loyal, before the nuptial high mass. The Rev. Norbert King was the officiating clergyman.
Parents of the bridal couple are Mrs. Margery Colby of Greenwood, rt. 1, and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Gilles of Cadott.
For her wedding, the bride wore a gown of white Chantilly lace and tulle, designed with long sleeves and a full skirt with a scalloped lace overskirt. Seed pearls and iridescents outlined the sweetheart neckline and a pearl crown held her fingertip veil. She carried a bouquet of white roses.
Mrs. Eugene Schneider, Hales Corners, was matron of honor for her cousin and Donald Weggen of Falls Creek attended the groom.
Mrs. Schneider wore a floor length gown of shrimp colored lace over tulle with a matching pearl trimmed hat and carried a nosegay bouquet of matching carnations surrounded by pompons.
Dinner was served at 11:30 at the church hall followed by a reception.
Mr. and Mrs. Gilles left on a honeymoon trip to northern Wisconsin and will make their home at Unity where he is principal of the Colby elementary school.
Mrs. Gilles, a graduate of Wisconsin State College, Eau Claire, teaches the fourth grade at Abbotsford. Her husband is a graduate of Taylor County Teachers College.
