Ayers, Harry, Sr. (7 January 1902 - 7 January 1959)

 

Service for York farmer to be Saturday - Funeral services for Harry Ayers, Town of York farmer, who died Wednesday morning on his 57th birthday in Neillsville, have been tentatively scheduled for Saturday afternoon. Arrangements are being made by the Georgas Funeral Home.  Mr. Ayers had been ill for about 10 days.

 

He is survived by Mrs. Ayers and three (four) children: Mrs. Marvin (Lois) Radke of Loyal; Nancy and Pat, at home; and Harry, Jr., who operates the farm of Mrs. Ira Slocomb in the Town of Grant.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon from the Congregational Church for Harry Ayers, Sr., of he Town of York, who died January 7, in Neillsville. The Rev. Frank B. Harcey officiated.  Burial was made in the Windfall Cemetery, Granton.

 

Mr. Ayers was born January 7, 1902, in the Town of Grant, son of the late Gustavus and Lois (Wells) Ayers. After attending the rural schools near Granton he attended the Neillsville High School.  He farmed for a while, later going to work in Chicago, where he worked until his marriage to the former Gladys Pedder on May 21, 1924, at Arcadia.  For the past three years, along with his farm work, he was working in a dairy at Greenwood.

 

He is survived by his wife and four children: Mrs. Marvin (Lois) Radke, Loyal; Harry Ayers, Jr., Neillsville, and Patricia and Nancy, at home.  Other survivors include a step-sister, Mrs. Sherman Mitchell, Neillsville; a step-brother, Lawrence Bruckner, in Idaho; and three grandchildren.

 

The Georgas Funeral Home made funeral arrangements.

 

Pallbearers were: William Seelow, Jr., Russell Seelow, Frederick Seelow, Frank Bayuk, Glenn Schwanebeck and Willard H. Allen.

 

Two hymns, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "The Old Rugged Cross", were sung by Mrs. B. H. Crissinger and Mrs. Herbert Williams, accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.

Brisson, Chippewa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Milan Soper and Mrs. Wesley Soper, Onalaska; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bayuk, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Hansen, Patrick Plunkett, Bernard Osburn, and Fred Eischen, all of Greenwood; John Lesneski, Withee; Mr. and Mrs. William Lowery, Granton; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Schwanebeck, Pittsville; Mr. and Mrs. George Kollenbach, Mrs. William Salberg and Mrs. Stanley Alexander, La Crosse.
