The tenth annual Badger Boys State began is session at Ripon College, Ripon, Wis., June 16, 1951, and will convene through June 23.

Representing Loyal at badger Boys state are Art Gregory and Joe Voight, who left Marshfield by buss at 5:30 a.m., Saturday, June 16.

The boys, juniors at the Loyal High School, were chosen by a committee consisting of J.R. Thomas, Henry Boe, V.O. Kauffman, and Byron Zepplin.  The men are all members of the Loyal Post of the American Legion, which organization is defraying the costs of the boys’ stay at Ripon.

The Badger Boys State is an effort on the part of the American Legion to bring to the boys of Wisconsin a knowledge of the fundamental principles of our American Government through actual practice in the duties of the city, county and state offices for the period of the Boys State.

As future voters and office holders, the youth of Wisconsin should have an understanding of the problems of public officials, their duties and their functions.  An opportunity to learn these fundamentals is offered by the Badger Boys State.

The program of Boys State is entirely non-political.  Consideration of governmental problems will be free from propaganda.

The boys are under the direct charge of Camp Director Val W. Ove and his staff.  Glenn D. Tinkham, Marshfield, assisted by Werner Witte, is serving as Dean of City Counselors.
