Schwanebeck, Dorothy Annetta (9 September 1925 - 25 September 2010)

 

Dorothy A. Schwanebeck, 85, of Pittsville died peacefully at home with family at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010.

 

Dorothy Annetta Jacobson was born Sept. 9, 1925, in Rockford, IL, to Joseph and Thresea (Gehre) Jacobson. She was educated at Dewhurst School and attended Neillsville High School. Dorothy worked in Rockford, IL, for a short time before marriage.  She returned to the Town of Sherwood and married Lester F. Schwanebeck Feb. 15, 1945, at St. John’s Lutheran Parsonage in Pittsville.  Lester and Dorothy farmed in the Town of Sherwood.  Dorothy was a homemaker who enjoyed keeping in touch with friends and relatives by sending letters and cards.  Dorothy loved going out to eat but always welcomed everyone at her home with a good meal.

 

She cherished time spent with family, especially her grandchildren. She attended family reunions every August.

 

Dorothy was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, its Ladies Aid and the Sherwood Sewing Club.

 

Dorothy is survived by four children, Arnold (Linda) Schwanebeck, Pittsville, Patsy (Richard) Bretl, Wisconsin Rapids, Lee (Cheairee) Schwanebeck, Pittsville and Dennis (Peggi) Schwanebeck, Pittsville; one daughter-in-law, Colleen Schwanebeck, Pittsville; 15 grandchildren, Paul, Bryan, Adam, Kristina, Kelli, Jessica, Luke, Mike, Matthew, Mark, Summer, Ben, Tyler, Heather and Steve; 17 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Russell (Vivian) Jacobson, Pittsville George (Lavern) Jacobson, Arpin, Richard (Mildred) Jacobson, Pittsville, Earl (Joyce) Jacobson, Rockford, IL and Jerry (Ellie) Jacobson, Pittsville.

 

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester, on May 13, 2003; one son, Raymond Schwanebeck; and one grandson, Anthony.

 

A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Town of Sherwood.  Rev. Tom Hahn will officiate.  Organist Mary Schwanebeck will provide music for congregational singing. 

 

Burial will be in the Town of Sherwood Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearer will be Ken Schwanebeck.

 

Visitation was held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday with a prayer service at 8 p.m. at Buchanan Funeral Home in Pittsville.  Wednesday, visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church.

 

Buchanan Funeral Home, Pittsville, is assisting the family with arrangements.
