Howard, Alta (1 February 1890 - 15 June 1959)

 

Mrs. Alta (Palms) Howard, 69, Rt. 1, Neillsville, died Monday in Luther Hospital in Eau Claire. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. from the Methodist Church.  The Rev. Virgil Holmes, Neillsville and the Rev. Ralph Walker of Eau Claire, will officiate.  Burial will be made in the Town of Seif Cemetery.

 

Mrs. Howard was born February 1, 1890, in the Town of Weston, daughter of the late Jacob and Alcelia (Markham) Flick. She received her education in the Town of Weston and resided most of her life on a farm in Clark County.

 

Her marriage to Nelson E. Palms took place July 1, 1915, in Fairchild. He died in 1936.  In 1944 she was married to Harvey Howard, who died in 1947.

 

Mrs. Howard is survived by eight children, Mrs. Joseph (Dorothy) Bayuk, Joliet, Ill.; Mrs. Eugene (Orlean) O’Leary, Sharon; Roy Palms, Milwaukee; Harley Palms, Deerfield, Ill.; Robert and Wilfred Palms, Neillsville; Mrs. Earl (Wilma) Erickson, Neillsville,; and a step-daughter, Mrs. Alf. (Florence) Lehman, Holcombe.

 

Other survivors include four sisters, Mrs. Tessie Langworthy of Eau Claire, Mrs. Jessie Walker of Vesper, Mrs. Cecil (Nerissa) Walker of Altoona, and Mrs. George (Mildred) Boyer, Neillsville; and two brothers, Ernest Flick of Fairchild and Vernon Flick of De Soto. Thirty-two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.

 

Funeral arrangements are being made by the Georgas Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Alta Howard, 69, were conducted Friday from the Neillsville Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ralph Walker, Eau Claire officiating.  Burial was made in the Town of Seif Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers were: Glen Flick, Howard Langworthy, Manley Walker, Earl Boyer, Clifford Walker and Arvid Boyer.  Flowers were carried by Mrs. Manley Walker; Mrs. Ralph Walker; Mrs. Elmer Kirk and Mrs. George Robertson.

 

Wilfred B. Galstad, accompanied by Mrs. James A. Musil, sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages".
