Person, Roy E. (12 MAR 1927 - 11 OCT 2010)

 

THORP -- Roy Eugene Person, 83, of Thorp, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, at the Miller Alternative Care Center in Thorp.

 

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Thorp. Burial will be in East Thorp Village Cemetery, town of Withee, where full military honors will be performed by the Thorp American Legion and Gilman VFW clubs.

 

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and again Friday at the church, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

 

Hemer Funeral Service of Medford is assisting the family with arrangements.

 

He was born March 12, 1927, in Osseo, the son of John A. and Grace O. (Haughdal) Person. He was united in marriage Sept. 2, 1950, in Fall Creek to Lucille Adela Schulz. She preceded him in death on April 12, 1993. Roy was married Nov. 28, 1998, in Thorp to Shirley Swanson-Willison.

 

Roy served in the U.S. Army, serving from 1946 to 1947. Roy and Lucille moved to their current residence in 1960, where they owned and operated a small hobby farm until his retirement. Roy also worked at various cheese factories as head cheesemaker for 40 years.

 

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Person of Thorp; children, Diane (Glen) Vetterkind of Thorp, Judy (Joe) Szemraj of Lublin, Jane (Dave) Metzke of Marshfield, Jeff Person of Thorp, Bonnie Haas of Chippewa Falls, Mike (Cherri) Person of Withee, Susan Person of Gilman, Russ (Penny) Person of Thorp and Mark (Carrie) Person of Gilman; stepchildren, Linda (Jerry) Fowler of Indiana, Kurt (Charlene) Willison of Illinois, and Dan Willison of Medford. He is further survived by 40 grandchildren and 14 step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild; two sisters, Myrtle Stenseth of Eau Claire and Winnie (Buzz) Nelson of Onalaska; and a brother, Richard Person of Milanca, Minn.
