Morgan, Arthur A. (3 October 1885 - 7 August 1959)

 

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Georgas Funeral Home for Arthur A. Morgan, 73, of Neillsville, who died Friday in his sleep.  The Rev. Frank B. Harcey of the United Church of Christ officiated, with burial which was made in Oxford.

 

Mr. Morgan was born October 3, 1885, in Oxford, where he received his education, later attending Endeavor Academy.  During his life he operated a hardware store, a shoe store and a general merchandise store before going into the lumbering business.

 

He was the assistant manager of the O & N Lumber Company in Marshfield before coming to Neillsville, where he managed the company’s yard from 1945 to 1957.  He was retired.

 

He was married in 1906 to Grace Galloway, who died in 1912; and in 1917 he was married to the former Amelia Lee Lentz in Milwaukee.

 

Mr. Morgan is survived by three children: Miss Mildred Morgan of Ottawa, Ill., Mrs. Ralph (Betty Jane) Sanderson, Chicago, Ill. and a step-son, Arthur Lentz, New York City, N. Y.  Other survivors are a sister, Mrs. Fred (Alma) Flook, Portage; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

 

He was a member of the United Church of Christ and of the I. O. O. F. Lodge in Neillsville.

 

Pallbearers at the Neillsville service were: Robert Thompson, Charles Poole, Arthur Carl, N. F. Toptine, Henry Wallace, and Elmer Keller.  Those serving at the Oxford services were: Stewart Mitchell, Walter Morgan, H. W. Jones, Frederick Gerbitz, Clayton Mitchell, and Darrell J. Schellkopf.

 

People from away here for the services at Oxford were: Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Mitchell, Wisconsin Dells; Mr. and Mrs. C. Mitchell, Endeavor; and Charles Poole, Neillsville.  Those attending the Neillsville services were: Miss Mildred Morgan, Ottawa, Ill.; Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Sanderson, Chicago, Ill.; Arthur Lentz, New York City; V. O. Kaufman, Loyal; H. N. Hiltz, Owen; A. J. Anderson, Stanley; Wendelin J. Merkel and P. J. Oster, Marshfield; Floyd E. Winn, Granton; Mr. and Mrs. Rollie Benedict, Greenwood; and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Reinhard, Bloomer.
