Janicki, Ted F. (11 March 1919 - 19 October 2010) With Flag

 

Ted. F. Janicki, 91, of Neillsville died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.

 

Ted was born March 11, 1919, in Indiana Harbor, IN, the son of Joseph and Mary (Karkiewicz) Janicki.  He received his education in the Hatfield area and then farmed with his parents near Bruce Mound.  He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and entered the U. S. Army in 1942.  He served in the 313th, 79th Division, during WWII as a water-cooled machine gunner in the fifth wave on Omaha beach in Normandy, France, where he was wounded and received a Purple Heart.

 

After honorable discharge, Ted married Dorothy Mack Nov. 16, 1946, in Neillsville.  He bought the farm in the Town of Dewhurst, where they farmed for 63 years.  Ted was also employed at Nueheisel Lime in Eau Claire, then Roddis Plywood in Marshfield and with his brother Joe at Norris & Son Cranberries in Babcock.  From 1961 to 1984 he was employed as an ammunition expert at Fort McCoy.  Ted was thrilled to go on the Freedom Flight to Washington D.C. in October of 2009 accompanied by his son, Michael.

 

Ted is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a life member of Alma Center VFW Post 8494, American Legion Haugen-Richmond Post 73, Neillsville, and AMVETS Post 5494 of Black River Falls. Ted was an avid fisherman and enjoyed deer, turkey, elk, moose and caribou hunting in Colorado, Alaska and Canada.  He also loved to play cards and sit around the campfire with family.

 

Ted is survived by eight children, Ted Jr. (Corinne) of Neillsville, Michael (Barbara) Cadott, Mark of Neillsville, Craig (Diann) of Neillsville, Sheryl (John) Jenness of Brooklyn Park, MN, Kevin (Renee) of Neillsville, Robin (Steve) Simonis of Neillsville and Jessica (Bill) Staszak of Hatfield; 45 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Regina Mays of Wylie, TX and Clara St. John of Neillsville.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy, Sept. 8, 2010; two grandsons, Chris and Luke; four great-grandchildren, Anthony, Isabelle, Brice and Charlie; and eight brothers and sisters: Clements Janicki, Wanda Kasparzak, Walter Janicki, Prixcida Fischer, Helen Wood, Josephine Wood, Joseph Janicki Jr. and Clementina Dixion.

 

A funeral mass for Ted was held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Neillsville, with Rev. Woodrow Pace officiating. Visitation was from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Buchanan Funeral Home, Neillsville, and from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the church. 

 

Pallbearers were: Mickey Janicki, Alan Janicki, Kevin Janicki, Jr., Adam Janicki, Archie Jenness, Billy Staszak, Bryan Dux and Jake Slaughter.  Burial was in the Hatfield Cemetery with military rites by Alma Center VFW post 8494.
