Briggs, Sharlene Kay (Marriage - 5 September 1959)

The Neillsville Methodist Church was the scene of the wedding at 3 p.m. Saturday of Miss Sharlene Kay Briggs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Randolph Briggs of Green Bay, formerly of Neillsville, and Charles William Swann, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Swann, Rt. 1, Neillsville.  The Rev. Virgil Holmes performed the double ring ceremony.  The candlelit altar was decorated with baskets of gladioli and greens.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a floor-length gown of white Peau de Soie and imported scalloped rosepoint lace.  The fitted bodice featured a sweetheart neckline and three-quarter length sleeves.  A full pleated panel of lace graced the back of the bouffant skirt.  Her elbow-length veil of imported silk illusion was attached to a half crown of matching lace edged in seed pearls.  She carried a cascade bouquet of a white orchid surrounded by stephanotis and ivy.

Maid-of-honor for her sister was Miss Mary Briggs, and Miss Nancy Yenni of Neillsville was bridesmaid.  Tom Overman, Neillsville, attended the groom as best man, Roger Meihak, Neillsville, also assisted the groom. Dennis Harcey and Larry Wendt, both of Neillsville, served as ushers.

Dr. Rodney A. Briggs, Morris, Minn., uncle of the bride, sang, "Because" and "The Lord’s prayer."  He was accompanied by Mrs. Jas. A. Musil at the organ.

The bridesmaids wore identical street length gowns of emerald green crystal Peau with matching cap-style headpieces edged with seed pearls.

The young couple received 175 guests at a reception following the ceremony in the church dining room.

Both the bride and groom are graduates of Neillsville High School.  The groom attended River Falls State College and the bride Stout State College.

After a brief honeymoon they will reside at 4520 Hamersley Rd., Madison, and both will continue their studies at the University of Wisconsin.

Out of town relatives attending included grandparents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. George M. Briggs, Madison; and Mr. and Mrs. Dan O’Bridges, Tucson, Ariz.; Dr. and Mrs. Rodney Briggs, Morris, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. William Briggs, Lafayette, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Warner Geiger, Oshkosh; and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Swann, Jr., Edgerton.
