Washburn Township (22 October 1959)

 

Miss Jean Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Williams, and Nathan Vandeberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Vandeberg of Marshfield, were united in marriage Saturday afternoon at the Neillsville Methodist Church, with the Rev. Virgil Holmes officiating.

 

The reception for relatives and close friends was held in the church parlors following the ceremony.  A shower and dance was held at the American Legion Hall.  The couple spent a few days honeymooning in Canada and Northern Michigan.

 

Mrs. Elmer Kapfer entertained the Washburn Homemaker Club last week, Wednesday with 11 members and one visitor present. A dinner was served at noon.  After the business meeting the project, "Selection and Care of Hard Surfaced Floor coverings," was presented by Mrs. Ralph Short.  The next meeting will be entertained by Mrs. Albert Lincoln November 11.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Spiegel, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Spiegel and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kissling left early Saturday morning on a deer and antelope hunting trip to Gillette, Wyo., and Powder River, Mont. they plan to be gone a week.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Gates and Mrs. Alfred Spiegel, Sr., are staying at the Robert Spiegel home and caring for their family.  Tommie Spiegel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alf. Spiegel is staying with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hoeser.  Michael and Vickey Kissling are staying with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kissling. Vickey also stays with Mrs. Elmer Kapfer daytimes.  Michael attends the Washburn School.

 

Mrs. Alma Hopfensperger is having her barn remodeled and is having a barn cleaner installed. Charles Bright is doing the work.

 

Mrs. Hilma O’Leary, Chicago, attended the Williams-Vandeberg wedding and is spending several days with Mrs. Art Williams and son, Oliver, and his family.

 

Daniel St. John, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lenard St. John, returned home from Memorial Hospital Friday.  He was a patient there for two weeks.

 

Many from this vicinity attended the Williams-Vandeberg wedding, dance and shower Saturday.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Roger Short and family, Milwaukee, spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. Frank Short. Roger and Kenneth Short, assisted by Irving Stevens, George Allbaugh and Ernest Kuhn, sawed wood for Mrs. Short Saturday afternoon.

 

Miss Elaine Short accompanied by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Art Short, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Short, drove to Madison and Verona Sunday. The former were dinner and super guests of Mr. and Mrs. Allan Troemner in Madison.  The latter were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Don Stewart and family and Mrs. Frank Stewart in Verona.  Mr. and Mrs. Don Stewart and family and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Short were supper guest of Mr. and Mrs. Troemner, also.

Leon Kapfer, daughter, Barri, and son Jack, and Mrs. Charlotte Glover and son, Garry, of Janesville, spent the weekend with Mr. Kapfer’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kapfer.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schultz returned home Saturday after visiting for several weeks with their sons, Hallie and his wife in Oshkosh, and Td and his family in Waterford; and daughter, Mrs. Henry Knutson and her family in Milwaukee.  Mr. and Mrs. Hallie Schultz brought them home Saturday. The returned home Sunday, accompanied by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Rodman, who will visit their son and grandson, Leonard Schultz and his family.
