Washburn Township (17 December 1959)


A Christmas program will be held at the Washburn School Friday evening at 8:15 p.m.  Everyone is welcome to attend.


The Washburn P. T. A. met Thursday evening.  The meeting was conducted by the president, Mrs. Darrel Hohenstein.  It was voted to have another square dancing party at the school, January 7.  The group had its Christmas party and played bingo to exchange gifts. Cookies, cake and coffee were served.


A miscellaneous shower was held at the Washburn Town Hall Saturday evening honoring Miss Joan Matuszak, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Matuszak, and Rodger Stafford (Staffon), Alma Center.  Quite a nice crowd attended. The couple was presented with many gifts.  Lunch was served. They will be married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Saturday, December 26.


Mrs. Ragnar Mortenson entertained the Washburn Homemakers club December 9, with 12 members and five visitors present.  The meeting was conducted by the president, Mrs. Elmer Kapfer.  The group sang Christmas songs.  Mrs. Irving Stevens and Mrs. Floyd Wall had charge of games and contests, after which they exchanged Christmas gifts.  Several brought cookies, which were given to children at the retarded (special needs) school in Neillsville.


Mrs. Irving Stevens will be hostess at the next meeting January 13.  Mrs. Arnold Huth, Sr., will be project leader. The topic will be, "Spending Your Food Dollar Wisely."


Mrs. William Tullis will entertain the Birthday club this (Thursday) afternoon, with Mrs. Chris Feutz as assistant hostess.


The Cannonville Sunday school will have a Christmas program at the church Saturday evening.


Mrs. Frank Shot was a Sunday dinner guest of her son, Kenneth, and his family in honor of his birthday.


Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Rutherford, Black River Falls, were Sunday dinner guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schultz.
