Freund, Nick (12 July 1879 - 14 January 1960)

 

Nick Freund, 80, formerly of Bakerville, but who had been making his home with his children the last few years, died in Neillsville Thursday after a long illness.

 

Funeral services were held Saturday from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville. The Rev. Fr. Joseph Eisenmann officiated, and burial was made in the Corpus Christie Catholic Cemetery, Bakerville.

 

Mr. Freund was born July 12, 1879, in Jonesboro, Ill., and received his education there.  He was married January 22, 1907, in Iowa to Katherine Gerhartz, who died in 1956.  Following their marriage they farmed in Iowa until 1916, when they moved to the Bakerville area. They retired from farming in 1946 and moved to Neillsville.

 

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Martin (Susan) Feuerstein, and Mrs. Ray (Mathilda) Burr, both of Neillsville; and two sons, Edwin of Neillsville, and Walter of Marshfield.  Other survivors are two brothers, Charles of Chicago, and Alfred of New York, a sister, Mrs. Mary Wapp, Neillsville; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

 

A combined parish and Holy Name rosary service was held Friday evening at the Bergemann Funeral home.  Mr. Freund was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Neillsville during his residence here.

 

Pallbearers were: Felix Conouyer, Math Gessert, Henry Langreck, John Panske, Gerald Schmidt and Joseph Wavrunek.

 

People here for the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Walter Freund and sons, Miss Deloris Burr, Mr. and Mrs. Math Gessert, John Panske, Mr. and Mrs. Felix Conouyer, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Brost, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Christensen, Robert Gauger, Gilbert Stini, and Noel Strack, all of Marshfield; Charles Freund, Chicago, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Blake, Mr. and Mrs. William Gerhartz, McIntyre, Ia.; Mr. and Joseph Winkels, LeRoy, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Carroll, Austin, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bissen and family, Blooming Prairie, Minn.; and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Noll, Menomonie.
