Hoeser, Lenus A. "Leon" (21 NOV 1909 - 26 NOV 2010)

 

Lenus A. "Leon" Hoeser, 101, of Loyal died at the House of the Dove in Marshfield on Friday, Nov. 26, 2010.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Loyal. The Rev. James Logan will officiate, and burial will follow in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Voss, Franz Grossenbacher, Franklin Walter, Raymond Oestreich, Perry Oestreich and Richard Meyer. Honorary pallbearers will be August Diericks and Thomas Hoeser. Visitation will be held Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, at Cuddie Funeral Home in Loyal from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary service. Visitation will also be held at the funeral home Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

 

Lenus Anthony Hoeser was born on Nov. 21, 1909, in the township of York, rural Loyal, the son of George and Barbara (Goetz) Hoeser. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the Loyal area. After completing his education, Leon worked as a farmhand in the Loyal area.

 

He was united in marriage to Florence M. Beaver on Nov. 22, 1932, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Loyal. They rented a farm two miles north of Loyal and farmed there until purchasing a farm northeast of Loyal in 1943. Leon and Florence raised their family of five children and farmed until 1994. He also worked as a patrolman for the town of Loyal for a few years, and at the Weyerhauser Door factory. They then bought a home and moved into Loyal. His wife, Florence, died at home on Feb. 8, 2000. Leon resided at home until his death.

 

He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Our Lady of Fatima Council #4963.

 

Leon had many interests, but especially loved spending time with his family, milking cows, horse pulling, playing cards, gardening, picking berries and dancing.

 

He is survived by two sons, Ronald (June) of Loyal and James (Kathie) of Milwaukee; two daughters, Barbara (Gary) Millard of Marshfield and Mary Ellen (Gary) Pradarelli of Scottsdale, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Liz (Wade) Vaughan, Lisa (William) Gratzek, Sara Meyer, Jeff (Carie) Hoeser, Karen (Ryan) Amundson and Beth (Matt) Fredrick; and great-grandchildren Brittany Gratzek, Nicholas and Lindsey Vaughan, Dale and Eric Hoeser, Heather Meyer, Jack Amundson and Lainey Fredrick.

 

Leon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Florence; one son, Dale; two grandsons, David and Robert Hoeser; three brothers, Otto, Frank and Joe Hoeser; and seven sisters, Rose Schuld, Bertha Breitbach, Mary Breitbach, Anna Dougherty, Katie Hunsel, Sophie Hoeser and Tress Wangen.
