Stanley, Wisconsin Sunbeams (17 May 1894)

By Vindex

Several Scandinavian immigrants returned to their native land from the place last week, presumably bidding adieu to the Stars and Stripes.

W. A. Parker of Colfax has opened a jewelry and watch repairing shop in the Sargent and Sheldon Drug Store.

W. S. Monroe & Son of Cadott have shipped a printing outfit to this place, with the intention of establishing a local paper to be called the Stanley Journal.

During the noon hour on Tuesday of last week a fire broke out among the lath on the east side of the N. W. L. Co’s lumber yard. As a strong wind was blowing from the northwest, and sparks of fire were flying toward the village, the outlook for a time was rather serious, but after some delay the Co’s powerful hose was adjusted and fire surrounded, controlled and extinguished before it had done much damage.

The Stanley, Phillips and Merrill R. R. Co. have a crew of man under Dan Devine about three miles north of Stanley that are chopping out the right of way northward, with the intention of adding a few miles of track this summer, to that part which was built last year.
