Lewan, Mary Ann (11 MAY 1957)

Mary Ann Lewan, daughter of Mrs. Anton Lewan of Gilman, became the bride of Donald Harvey Urbas of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Urbas of Chippewa Falls, in an 11:00 o’clock ceremony performed by the Rev. John Dzurko at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church at Gilman on the morning of Saturday, May 11, 1957.

The couple was attended by Joe Lewien, best man, of Thorp, and Janice Kowalczyk, maid of honor.  Bridesmaids were Carol Szczech and Joan Kalinowski of Milwaukee, cousins of the groom and bride respectively.  Groomsmen were Tony Filipak of Gilman and Eddie Neiman of Chicago.  Eddie Polnaszek of Thorp and Peter Herman of Gilman served as ushers.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her brother, was attired in a floor length gown of French Alencon lace and misty tulle over bridal satin.  She wore a fitted bodice with mandarin collar and long tapered sleeves.  Alternating inserts of lace and tulle were on a full gathered skirt over a colonial hoop.  Her Juliet cap of lace was trimmed in pearls and held the pure silk, English imported illusion veil.  Her flowers were purple orchids.  The bridesmaids wore dresses of blue lace and net and bolero jackets with sleeves.  Cascades of tiny ruffles were full fathered from waist to hem in front.  The full bouffance of the skirt was accented with a three-tiered back of lace outlined with hand clipped scallops on each tier.  They carried fan shaped bouquets of pink carnations and blue flowers, and wore matching hats and gauntlets.

The bride is a graduate of Gilman High School and has been employed at Lewan’s I.G.A. Store in Gilman.  The groom graduated from Thorp High School and Wright Jr. College in Chicago.  He is employed by Gorton Brothers of Eau Claire.

Following the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served at Koolmo’s Hall at Gilman to relatives at 1:00 p.m., and a reception was held at 4:00 o’clock, attended by 225 friends and relatives.

The happy couple will reside in Thorp.
