Waterman, William G. (17 May 1840 - 29 Sep 1913)

Died at his home on Pleasant Ridge, Monday evening at 8:30 o’clock, William G. Waterman, aged 73 years, 4 months and 12 days.  He was born in England and at the age of 12 years came to this country with his parents, who settled in New York state, later moving to Virginia, where deceased grew to manhood.  At the outbreak of the Civil War he enlisted in the Confederate Army and served throughout the war, losing an arm in battle.  He was united in marriage to Paulina Ann Boram, May 4, 1862, and to this union seven children were born, all of whom survive them.  The Waterman family moved to Clark County 46 years ago and settled on Pleasant Ridge, which was ever since their home.

Mr. Waterman was a man of generous impulses and never forgot the hospitable ways of the pioneer.  He had born adversity cheerfully and enjoyed prosperity quietly.  He was a man of united sound sense with strong convictions and was eminently fitted to be one of that earlier society of pioneers who did so much for the early days of this county.  He had been in rugged health for almost his entire life but was taken with an attack of acute indigestion from which he did not survive.  His wife died Sept. 18, 1906, and deceased is survived by Edward and William and Mrs. John Vine of town Grant, John of Minneapolis, Henry of Dodson, Mont., Nelson of Amery, Wis., and Mrs. A.E. Lovelace of Crandon.  Also by one sister, Sarah Harrington of Sycamore, Ill.

Interment will be made at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, services being held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the church at Pleasant Ridge.
