Richard H. Carlberg, Sr., 80, Greenwood, passed away on Friday, Nov. 19, 2010. Services were held at 11 a.m., on Friday, Nov. 26, at Grace United Methodist Church, Greenwood. Rev. Dong Su Lee officiated.

 

Richard Carlberg was born on Dec. 10, 1929, in Gary, Ind., to Aaron and Jessie (nee Edwards) Carlberg. He was raised in Gary and Porter County, Ind. He graduated from Emerson High School, Gary, in December 1947. He married Irene Westby on Sept. 11, 1948, at Salem Methodist Church, Hebron, Ind. He was employed by National Tube Works, a division of U.S. Steel, for 24 1/2 years, as an industrial engineer and foreman. He sang for the U.S. Steel chorus for many years. He retired to Wisconsin and purchased and ran his in-laws farm north of Greenwood. His interests included singing for the Clark County Male Chorus, accounting, serving as treasurer for Grace United Methodist Church, crossword puzzles, and his grandchildren.

 

Survivors include his wife, Irene; five children, Richard H. (Sally) Carlberg Jr., Anna (Tom) Rueth, Aaron (Sue) Carlberg, Dorothy Roback, and Debra (Brad) Rowe; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John; and one sister, Barbara.

 

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
