Gereau, Bernice #2 (18 APRIL 1926-09 DEC 2010)


Bernice L. "Bea" Gereau, 84, Withee, died on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at the Clark County Health Care Center, Owen. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date.


Bernice Custer was born on April 18, 1926, in Stratford, to Bernard and Bertha (nee Hoefs) Custer. She attended Stratford schools until eighth grade. She worked at the Pea Cannery in Marshfield until 1945. She married Floyd Gereau on June 12, 1945 in Marshfield. After her marriage, she worked at the Weinbrenner Shoe Company in Marshfield until 1951 and then moved to the town of Maplehurst, rural Withee, to raise their four children. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, canning, bird watching, and people watching. She also wrote articles for the Owen Enterprise newspaper called "Bea’s News" for a number of years.


Survivors include four children, Jennie Gereau, Neillsville, James (Becky) Gereau, Evansville, Phillip Gereau, Maplehurst, and Paul (Tonia) Gereau of Lublin; seven grandchildren, Amy, Justin, Jason, Jesse, Trista, Darren and Eric; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold (Imogene) Custer, Stratford; and a sister, Doris Telschow, Wausau.


She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Floyd, in March 1998.
