Fijalkiewicz, George (23 FEB 1920 - 27 DEC 2010)

 

In loving dedication to a husband, father and friend for a life well lived.

 

George Fijalkiewicz, 90, of Greenwood died Monday, Dec. 27, at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital with his loving family by his side.

 

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, at Greenwood Galley and Pub, (formerly Chelsea's). Interment will take place in the spring.

 

George was born Feb. 23, 1920, in Stanley to Joseph and Jennie (Gulsynski) Fijalkiewicz. Marriage to Emily Rohland of Withee occurred in 1947. He worked in the logging industry in Oregon and California, and as a rural mail carrier in Mt. Shasta, Calif., until transferring to the Greenwood Post Office in 1954 where he worked as a mail carrier until his retirement. He also served as acting postmaster at Unity.

 

George and Emily loved traveling and learning, attending 36 Elderhostel programs including two programs in Hawaii and two in Alaska. George's other interest included rock hunting, dancing, fishing in Canada and being in the woods whether camping, cutting firewood, fishing or simply sitting on log quietly enjoying nature.

 

He was a loving and wonderful father and husband of 63 years who was at his happiest at times spent with his family. He is lovingly survived by his four children, daughters Carolyn Recker of Illinois, and Sienna (Mary) Vargas of Greenwood, sons Jerry (Pam) Fields of Colorado and Jon (Diane) Fields of Stoddard; 10 grandchildren, Stefanie (Eric) Manack of Illinois, Jennifer (Jeff) Gould of Florida, Jasonn (Laurel) Weber of Brookfield, Molly (Percy) Courseault of Wauwatosa, Anthony of Los Angeles, Calif., Garrett (Cassie) Fields of Maryland, Jenelle (Tom) Siebert of Aberdeen, S.D., Mitchell Fields of the US Air Force in Montana, Felicity Fields of Oregon, Tobias Fields of Colorado and eight great-grandchildren. He is further survived by Emily, his wife of 63 years, his sisters, Gina (Jack) Buhr of Chippewa Falls, Helen (Albert) Rohland of Curtis, brother Frank of Chippewa Falls, brothers-in-law Emil (Shirley) Rohland and Edmond (Dorthy) Rohland both of Withee, sisters-in-law Agnes Rohland and Gert Rohland of Withee, Elsie Petke of Withee, treasured friend and nephew Bill Schley of Owen, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

George was truly a man who loved life. His family and friends will so very deeply miss his presence in their lives.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be designated to Wisconsin Public Radio, Wisconsin Public TV or to a charity of your choice.
