Norbert Sowinski, 83, of Neillsville died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, in the Palliative Care Unit of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

 

Norbert John Sowinski was born Oct. 8, 1927, in Milwaukee, the son of John and Stella (Swieciak) Sowinski.  He enlisted into the United States Navy Sept. 13, 1945, and proudly served aboard the USS Prairie, mainly around China and the Indonesian Islands.  Upon his honorable discharge Oct. 1, 1948, Norb returned to Milwaukee and spent most of his working life at American Motors and the Chrysler Corporation. He was united in marriage to Geraldine Kaminski, Aug. 2, 1952, in Milwaukee.  They moved to Neillsville in 1997 to be closer to family and to see their only grandchild grow up.

 

Norbert was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville.  In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

 

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine; two daughters, Karen (Bob) Venne and Debbie (Tony) Hansen, both of Neillsville; a granddaughter, Julie Venne of Neillsville; and nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters.

 

The Mass of Christian Burial for Norbert will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville. The celebrant will be Fr. Varkey Velickakathu.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
