Motherless Lambs (6 July 1961)

Six motherless, black-nosed lambs, orphans from a windstorm that blew down the sheep barn leaving eight ewes and four lambs dead, are being fed twice daily in regular infant nursing bottles.

Mrs. Elton Imig, who has taken charge of the lamb feeding since the six lost their mothers, pasteurizes milk and fills six nursing bottles twice each day. The little lambs come to the kitchen steps to get their meal from her hands.

The lambs are kept in a small shed about 300 feet from the house and when Mrs. Ruth Imig opens the shed door they playfully follow her to the house for their milk feeding.

She feeds the lambs, one at a time, although all six crowd around her and can hardly wait the individual turn. During the first week, following the loss of the ewes, Mrs. Imig fed the lambs three times each day.  They are growing well and are the picture of health. Where Mary had one lamb to follow her, Ruth has six.
