Short, Eugene C. (10 January 1901 - 5 February 1962)

 

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Georgas Funeral Home for Eugene C. Short, 61, Rt. 2 Granton, who died February 5 in an Eau Claire hospital, where he had been a patient for two days. The Rev. Frank B. Harcey, pastor of the United Church of Christ, officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

 

Mr. Short was born January 10, 1901, in Hillsboro and came to Clark County with his parents.  On January 28, 1922, he was married to the former Leah Cook in Neillsville.  Mr. Short founded the Short Fur Farm, located between Neillsville and Granton and was clerk for the Kurth School district for many years.

 

He is survived by his wife and the following children: Dale of Granton; Mrs. LaVerne (Jeanette) Gaier, Magnolia, O.; Glenn and Floyd of Neillsville.  Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. William (Helen) Vine, Granton; Mrs. James (Ilene) Wheatly, Mentor, O.; a brother, Donald Hughes of Granton; and 10 grandchildren.

 

Pallbearers were: Rollie Deitrich, Jas. A. Musil, James West, Robert Hiles, George Hubing and Ernest Vine.  Two hymns, "The Lord’s Prayer" and "In the Garden" were sung by Miss Carol West, accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.

 

People from out of town here for the service were: Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne Gaier, Magnolia, O.; Mr. and Mrs. John Hughes, Chippewa Falls; Clark Hughes, Lake Hallie; Mr. and Mrs. Garth Gray, Peter Linzmaier, John Koing, Ray Grancorvitz, Guy Harwood, Margaret Hansen and Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Gaier, all of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Archie Amo, Mrs. William Schunke, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Gaier, all of Black River Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Klapper and Ervin Klapper, Green Bay; Miss Elaine Short, Mrs. Minnie Krueger and Jack Hughes, all of Milwaukee; Mrs. Ira Slocomb, Menomonie; Miss Shirley Magnuson, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dempsey, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Demsey, Minneapolis, Minn.; Richard Cram, Park Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Arndt, Thorp; Mr. and Mrs. Fred J. Barr, James Pekol, Ray Hoffman, Joe Jasurda, Frank Petkovsek, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hughes and Mr. and Mrs. Reynold Syth, all of Greenwood; and many from the Granton area.
