Final rites were conducted Aug. 13 at the Congregational Church, Owen, with Rev. Gruther officiating, and burial being made at the Riverside Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were Joe Thill, Phillip Lukowicz, Orville Lenser, Kenneth and Harold Bingham and Donovan Mengel, all being grandsons of the deceased.  Mary Hays, Patty, Suzy and Judy Thill were in charge of their great-grandfather’s flowers.  Mrs. Peter Christophersen furnished the organ music with Rev. and Mrs. James Stone singing "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Asleep with Jesus."

Mr. Mengel married Ida Goodwin at Cadott on the 23rd of November 1906.  To this union two sons, John and Orville were born, and two daughters, Vernse and Isabelle.  When Mr. Mengel was 20 years of age he settled in Clark County, Wis., farming being his chief occupation.  In addition to farming he worked in the woods as a lumberman for John S. Owen Co. and also served for years on the Owen Fire Department.
