Martin, Hiram G. (4 MAY 1918 - 30 APR 2011)


LOYAL -- Hiram G. Martin, 92, of Loyal died in his home Saturday, April 30, 2011, under the care of his family and Hospice.


A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, in Loyal. Burial will take place in St. Anthony Cemetery.


Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Cuddie Funeral Home in Loyal, with a 7 p.m. rosary service. Visitation also will be at the church Wednesday, from 10 a.m. until time of service.


Hiram George Martin was born May 4, 1918, in Marshfield, the son of George and Cora (Roggenbauer) Martin. He enlisted in the Army Air Force on Aug. 25, 1941, and served in the European Theatre. He fought in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge, and he was honorably discharged in 1945.


He married Lenore Hytry on Sept. 3, 1947, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Halder. They lived in Madison for six years, where he worked as a printer. In 1955, he bought a farm north of Loyal and farmed until 1967. He then worked as a carpenter at Wick's Building System in Spencer until his retirement.


He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lenore, of Loyal; his 11 children, Ron (Kathy) Martin of Lodi, Dr. Gene (Jantra) Martin of Greenwood, David (Shuleen) Martin of Pleasant Hill, Calif., Rosalind (Bob) Graf of Pierson, Fla., Paul (Anne) Martin of Loyal, Therese (Mike) Thompson of Temecula, Calif., Caroline Martin of Madison, Sheila (Lawrence) Durbin of Franksville, Thomas (Diane) Martin of Marshfield, John (Terri) Martin of Marshfield, and Maria (Joseph) Coel of Pleasant Prairie; 21 grandchildren; two brothers, Luke (Lorraine) Martin of Arlington, Va., and Melvin Martin of Marshfield.
