HALL'S PLANING MILL is now running on full time, with a contract for planing 5000,000 ft. of lumber and "there's more to follow."  The hum of the planer will be a fit accompaniment to the ring of the hammer the coming spring and summer.  Mr. Prentice says: "the ring of the hammer is the the sweetest music in the world."  Every stroke of the hammer means improvement, and that's where the harmony comes in.  We anticipate a good deal of such music when the season opens.

THE OYSTER SUPER last evening for the benefit of Rev. J. P. Greer, in this village was highly appreciated by those who "took in" the bi valves and the auctioneering of the pies after supper created considerable merriment.  We have charged up that joke to Fullmer, unto the day of reckoning, which will come some time, and then you better "look a leetle out."  The net proceeds of the supper amounted to 21.05, and some donations direct will swell the amount to about $30.00.

WAUSAU came near being the scene of another murder a week ago Saturday night.  The Torch of Liberty reports that about midnight a man named Jo Reien entered the sleeping apartment of C. Nelson, foreman of the grading crew, in the railroad boarding house.  "The bed where Mr. Nelson usually slept was occupied by Mrs. Nelson and a lady friend while the husband slept in another part of the same room.  One of the the ladies feeling the cold hand of  a man on her face, made an outcry which aroused Mr. Nelson who sprang up and proceeded to put he intruder out, when the villain stabbed him in the right side near the diaphragm." The assassin was arrested and lodged in jail; and at last accounts his victim was hardly expected to recover.  No motive is assigned for the deed.

AN ARREST was made here last Saturday, by the Sheriff of Clark County on suspicion of murder.  As near as we can ascertain the facts are about as follows:  Two men, whose names we have not been able to learn, living near Hemlock Dam, on Black river, went out in company on the 5th of this month, and that is the last that has been seen of one of them.  The other, when interrogated as to the whereabouts of his companion, asserted that he did not know and soon after disappeared.  The officers have been on his track and last Saturday the sheriff found him here as stated above.  When the sheriff said to hi, "you are my prisoner," his first words were, "I haven't murdered anybody.  This looks as though the thought of murder was uppermost in his mind, for he had not been told what he was arrested for.  It is supposed that he put his victim under the ice, as there were holes in the ice where they went in company.
