Theiler, Elise #2 (26 MAY 1868 - 10 MAY 1944)

Mrs. Elise Theiler passed away at the Krohn Hospital in Black River Falls, Wednesday, May 10, 1944, at 10:55 p.m.  She was born at Boltigan, Canton Bern, Switzerland on May 26, 1868, being 75 years, 11 months, and 14 days of age at the time of her death.

Elise Zeller, together with her five sisters, grew to young womanhood in Boltigan, where her parents, Fred and Sophia Zeller resided.  When fifteen years of age, she came to this country with her parents and her younger sister Lena, to live at Verona, Wis.

She was happily married on Nov. 20, 1890, to Frederick Theiler.  To this union were born five children, all of whom survive.

In March 1897 they moved to a farm near Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.), where they lived until 1920, when they retired to their new home in this village.  She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away on Dec. 28, 1933.

Mrs. Theiler was confirmed in Switzerland and has since been a member of St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church.  For over thirty years she has been a member of the Woman’s Guild of the church.

She leaves to mourn her death, two sons, Fred and Will, Humbird; three daughters, Mrs. Lena Tubbs, Eau Claire, Mrs. Sophia Colburn, Chicago, and Mrs. Louise Eppich, Union City, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Sophia Rhyner of Marshfield, and Mrs. Bertha Marty of Monroe.  There are ten grandchildren living and two deceased.

The funeral service was held at St. John’s Church Saturday afternoon, May 13, and burial was in Mentor Cemetery.  The Rev. N.J. Dechant officiated, preaching from the text Job 5:26, "Thou shalt come to thy grave, like as a shock of corn cometh in its season."  Mrs. Moen of Black River Falls sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden."  Many friends and relatives attended the service, and the many flowers expressed the sympathy of all to those who sorrow.  The pallbearers were Jacob Heft, John Michael, Fred Christen, John Greub, Fred Trachsel and Peter Hemmy.

Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were: Mrs. Oscar T. Olson, Blanchardville; Mr. and Mrs. Otto Hine, Mr. and Mrs. Oswald Rhyner, and B. Rhyner, Marshfield; Mrs. Sophia Schindler, Stevens Point; Gottlieb Marty, Monroe; Mrs. Fritz Ehrensperger, Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Rieder, Rockford; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Rieder, Fairchild; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rider, Allen; Robert Zimmerman, Mr. and Mrs. George Bleiler, Mr. and Mrs. Frenzel, Mrs. Bertha Marty, Monroe; Mr. and Mrs. Aug.
