Orrin Libby Farm (Fire - 30 July 1962)

Fire apparently caused by spontaneous combustion in the hay mow destroyed the barn on the Orrin Libby farm, in northwest Pine Valley, seven miles northwest of Neillsville, Monday afternoon. A large stack of baled hay continued to throw up flames and considerable smoke for long afterward.  Firemen with the rural unit stationed at Neillsville sprayed the house and another outbuilding which was threatened by sparks in a brisk went wind.  A heifer was caught inside; silo filler, which was in use daily to blow chipped hay into the barn, a planter and cultivator also were lost.  Libby said that there was "some insurance - but not enough".
