Haas, Jake Peter (1 March 1889 - 10 October 1962)

 

A requiem high mass was read Saturday morning in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville for Jake P. Haas, 73, of 1212 Hewett St. Neillsville , who died October 10 at his home.  The Rev. Fr. Bernard T. Kelly officiated.  Burial was made in the parish cemetery.  A general Rosary was said Friday evening at the Bergemann Funeral Home.

 

Jake Peter Haas, son of the late Lawrence and Mary (Ardt) Haas, was born March 1, 1889 in Sheboygan Falls.  When he was a small child the family moved to Kaukauna, where he received his education.  In 1906 they moved onto a farm near Neillsville.  He was employed at the Neillsville Condensery, now the American Stores Dairy Company, before he entered the Army May 27, 1918.

 

During his service overseas he was wounded.  He received his discharge on June 11, 1919, at Camp Grant, Ill.  After returning to Neillsville he was again employed at the American Stores Dairy Company.

 

Mr. Haas was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

 

He was married October 2, 1917, to the former Elizabeth Aumann in Neillsville.

 

He is survived by his wife; three sisters, Sister Laurine (Margaret) of Breda, Ia.; Mrs. J. C. (Katherine) Wheeler of St. Paul, Minn.; Mrs. Ernest (Marie) Bieneck of Neillsville; three brothers, Martin Haas of Tucson, Ariz.; Bernard J. and Joe Haas, both of Neillsville.

 

Pallbearers were: Clarence, Henry, Jr., Louis and Walter Aumann, Paul Ampe and Ernest Gaden.
