D. J. Spaulding of Unity, this county, completed the loading of 20 cars of 1-1/4, 1-1/2 and 2 inch shop common and better, last Saturday, being part of the purchase made by the Antigo Lumber Co., of Wausau, and which was shipped from Unity, direct to Chicago over the new line of the Wisconsin Central railroad.

This was the first train of lumber shipped over the Central’s new line, and is, probably, the largest shipment by any one party, for any party, by rail into Chicago, at one time. 

The cars were made up into a train at Stevens Point, where they were decorated with flags. Each car was stenciled at each end on both sides: "From D. J. Spaulding, manufacturer of Pine and Hardwood Lumber, Unity, Wis., to Antigo Lumber Co., Wausau, Wis." A photograph was also taken of the train. 

We trust this will not be the only train of the kind run form Mr. Spaulding’s mill to Chicago. D. J. Spaulding has done considerable in the way of advertising this portion of the country, and, in making up this train, he has certainly struck one of the best advertising hits that could possibly be made. 

Some may say that it is advertising D. J. Spaulding. To this we will certainly agree, and all will admit that it will be a benefit to him, but they must admit further, that everything that benefits his business at Unity benefits the surrounding country as we, and, that Mr. Spaulding has done more to build up and keep up the businesses growth of Unity, than any other one man.
