East Lynn (21 October 1910)

Charles Guk and family spent Sunday evening at A. Pusheck’s.

There is economy in all things, even in selling spring chickens.  To get the highest market price put them on top of something even if it is nothing but a load of potatoes.  The higher the elevation the better the price!  Bill says so and he has got a level head.

Mrs. Wm. Albrecht and baby Lucy took the 2 o’clock train at Chili Wed. afternoon for a few days visit with friends at Marshfield.

Emil Lindow and family entertained a few neighbors and friends Sunday evening.  The hours were spent with music and refreshments and all enjoyed a pleasant evening.

Everybody that has studied history knows that the world is round, but Herman Jensen cannot raise round sugar beets.  He says he cultivated, kicked and clubbed them, but in spite of all his efforts they would root down looking for moisture.  In the two loads that he took to Granton last Tuesday there was only one round one and that he threw at Fred Lichte’s dog.  But Gust Bergeman says the shape does not matter as long as they are big, heavy and solid.  If Herman can’t hold his own at raising sugar beets he surely can when it comes to rye.

Fred Lichte is busy hauling sand for the basement he intends to build this fall.
