Heathville (6 January 1911)

Mr. and Mrs. Howard Beaty, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Loyal Jordan and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Berd were Latamore callers lat Sunday.  Delbert doesn’t believe in Sunday work but nevertheless a pig was killed.  Howard also concluded in giving the matter a fair trial.

At present or at least when this item was written we are threatened with a severe snow storm. In addition to this the Granton weather report says a drop of 20 in the thermometer. This puts a man to thinking what he did with his milk checks, or what became of the goose on Thanksgiving Day. George Ure says he found it under the cement sidewalk.

(Continued from last week) After furnishing bonds, which was an easy matter for Ike and John; they returned from the lockup with a smile that would stop the cow from jumping over the moon. This may be as hard to believe as the story about the mule and the popcorn. The barn in which the corn was stored caught fire and when the corn began to pop, the mule thinking it was a snowstorm laid down and froze to death.

If those young fellows from East Lynn are taking old cats out riding what’s the matter with the Heathville fellows taking old hens out riding and cut one wing off.

Jay Brown believes in vegetables.  He thinks it’s good for a man’s health and strength.  One evening last week before going to bed he ate a raw rutabaga and in a dream the same night he licked a man twice his size.

Mr. and Mrs. Maluge of Marshfield called on neighbors and friends in this vicinity on the first day of the year.  Both are popular young people and have a large circle of friends in this community.

Some of the young fellows that went to see their best girls last Sunday got snowed in (or tied up) and were compelled to remain over night.  During the mean time they were wishing to see it clear up.
