Zukowski, Peter A. (15 AUG 1895 - 15 JAN 1958)

 

Peter Zukowski, 62, of the town of Reseburg (Clark Co., Wis.) passed away at his home at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15th, 1958.  He had been ill for the past two months at the Stanley and Marshfield hospitals, suffering from lung trouble and a weakened heart.  He came home from the Marshfield hospital on Saturday.

 

Mr. Zukowski was a veteran of World War I, a member of St. Hedwig’s Holy Name Society, the Polish National Alliance and Catholic Order of Foresters.

 

Rosary services will be recited at the Thorp Funeral Home on Friday evening.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 o’clock Sat. morning at St. Hedwig’s Church, with members of the American Legion participating in the service.

Zukowski, Peter A. (15 AUG 1895 - 15 JAN 1958)

 

Peter A. Zukowski, 62, a resident of this community since 1901, passed away at his home in the Town of Reseburg (Clark Co., Wis.) on Wednesday morning, Jan. 15, 1958, of a heart condition.  He had been ill in the hospital for the past two months.

 

Peter Zukowski was born in Poland on Aug. 15, 1895, and had reached the age of 62 years and 5 months.  He came to this country from Poland with his parents in 1901 and spent all his life here with the exception of serving in the army in World War I in 1917-18.

 

On June 26, 1929 he was married to Estelle Mamayek at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church at Thorp.  This union was blessed with four children, three sons and one daughter.

 

Surviving him are his wife, Estelle, three sons, Robert on the home farm, Leonard in the army at Ft. Dix, N.J., and Donald in the army in Brooklyn, N.Y., and one daughter, Geraldine, Mrs. Herbert Elzinga of Worth, Ill., and one grandson, Robert James; also one brother, Frank Zukowski of Chicago, and one sister, Tillie Zukowski of Chippewa Falls.  He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

 

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 118, the Catholic Order of Foresters, Polish National Alliance and St. Hedwig’s Holy Name Society.

 

Funeral services were held at St. Hedwig’s Church here at 10:00 o’clock Saturday morning, Jan. 18 with a funeral Mass said by Rev. Francis Piekarski, assisted by Father C. Chilicki and Father Eugene Knopka.  Interment followed in the parish cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion (Harry Badzinski in charge), a salute by the Legion Firing Squad and the sounding of Taps.  Pallbearers were Legion Commander Harry Smith, Tom Polnaszek, Wilfred Vanderhyden, Lief Larson, Stanley Glamkowski and Frank Sierocuk.

 

Out of town relatives and friends that attended were from : Pittsburgh, Pa.; Bever Falls, Pa.; Chicago, Ill.; Worth, Ill.; Chippewa Falls, Gilman, Willard, Neillsville, Withee, Glenwood, Stanley and Lublin, Wis.
