Bertz, Elizabeth (03 JUNE 1928-07 Sept 2011)

Elizabeth A. Bertz, 83, Ann Arbor, Mich., died on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, following a year-long battle against cancer. A celebration of her life was held on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Muehing Funeral Chapel, Ann Arbor.

Elizabeth Hilding was born on June 3, 1928, in East Lansing, Mich., to Arthur O. and E. Marie (nee Seeley) Hilding. She graduated from East Lansing High School in 1946. She attended the University of Michigan and received a bachelor of science degree in nursing in 1951. She worked at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Nephrology and later in intensive care dialysis, where she was an assistant head nurse, She married William Bertz, a 1940 Loyal High School graduate who worked as a pharmacist at the University Hospital. He died in 1961.

Survivors include two daughters, Paula Ruether, Spartanberg, S.C., and Nancy (Jim) Fox, Ypsilanti, Mich., four sons, Bruce Bertz, Ypsilanti. Mark Bertz, Ann Arbor, Kurt Bertz, Marshall, Mich., and John (Margaret) Bertz, Ann Arbor; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Bertz, Bellevue, Mich.; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one great-great-grandson; a brother, Russell (Marie) Hilding, Lansing, Mich; and a brother-in-law, Robert (Joan) Bertz, Loyal.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one great-grandson.
