Kostner, John J. (21 APR 1876 - 24 MAR 1958)

 

John J. Kostner, an old and respected citizen of Medford, Wis. for many years, passed away at the Stanley hospital at 8:30 Monday evening of old age infirmities.  He had been residing for the past 2 ½ months with his son Emil and family at Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), since the death of his wife.

 

Mr. Kostner served as Medford City Mayor and was a member of the city council for many years in his active life.  He was a member of the Catholic Order of the Knights of Columbus and served as Grand Knight for 13 years.

 

Born in Arcadia, Wis., on April 21, 1876, he received his education in the parochial and public schools of that city and was united in marriage to Elizabeth Rohn at Arcadia on Nov. 23, 1904, and who preceded him in death in January of this year.

 

Surviving are two daughters, Kathryn, Mrs. Fred Stevens and Esther, Mrs. A.A. Morehouse of Kenosha, and one son, Emil Kostner of Thorp; two brothers, Jerome Kostner of Medord and Norbert Kostner of Arcadia; two sisters, Margaret, Mrs. Herman Arnold of Mankato, Minn., and Mary, Mrs. George Haines of Arcadia, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  He was also preceded in death by three brothers, George, Ralph and Robert, and one sister, Tehresa.

 

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 27th at the Holy Rosary Church at Medford, the Rev. Mgs. Gregory Reuter officiating.  Interment will take place at Arcadia, Wis.
