Smith, John E. (13 DEC 1885 - 24 APR 1958)
John E. Smith, 71, a former resident of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), passed away at the Havenet Rest Home at Owen on Thursday, April 24, 1958, after a lingering illness.
The deceased was born on a farm near Streator, Ill., on Dec. 13, 1885. He came to Thorp about forty years ago and farmed in the Town of Thorp for three years before moving to the city of Thorp. He was unmarried. About three years ago he went to Owen to live at the rest home.
He is survived by one brother, Jacob Smith of Thorp, and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Baroni of Los Angeles, Calif., and Eleanor Smith of St. Paul.
Funeral services were held at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church here at 9:30 Saturday morning, April 26th, Rev. Herbert Hoffman officiating, and interment following in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Pallbearers were Alfred Kass, Jos. Kulwiec, Wm. Ramer, Gust Yah, Fred and Ed Driessen.
