Heathville (17 March 1911)

Mrs. Schmidtke was in Marshfield last Tuesday.

John Madler and Otto Schmidtke were Chili callers last Tuesday.

Sherman Davis took in the bock beer sing in Marshfield Monday.

H. A. Knoll got a little top heavy in Chili Wednesday.

Charley Elchlepp of Chili dare not make a crooked move, but what some one is ready to report him.  If you do, use them all alike.

A hand sociable in the Heathville School house next Friday; you buy her hand and we’ll try to win her heart. Come down and enjoy a good time. This sociable is given by Miss Ruby Winn, the teacher.

Mr. August Dankemyer is slowly regaining her health and reports have it, she is out of danger.

More bad copy in part of this - will do my best in transcribing it.

Wm. Zorn was a Granton caller last Saturday.

Ernest Schmidtke a boy of about 12 years had an operation on his throat at the Marshfield hospital. We understand the operation was successful.

W. W. Smith, who does not drink, chew, or smoke, or uses any bad language (can’t decipher the next lines).

They are baring some big timber over there in East Lynn. A tree as sound as a dollar and eh, what, 8 logs.  That is nothing Bill. Sherman Davis cut a tree on 37 last winters (whether it was on his own or whether he stole it that is out of our jurisdiction), it was a double one, some call it a crotch tree, some call it a school mam and some call it twins.   Let that be as it may, he sold 15 good sound logs out of it, cut lumber enough for siding for his house; he let Gordon Davis have two good boards for a wagon box.  Fred Carpenter stole enough to curb his well, and then he had enough left for a wooden overcoat.  Yes, and come to think of it, Jay Brown borrowed 4000 feet of it; and then he had a little Christmas tree left yet for Wellie. All out of one tree
