Boettcher, Rev. Otto William Christoph (5 May 1885 - 22 May 1963)

 

The Rev. Otto William Christoph Boettcher, 78, died at his home in Greenwood at 10:45 p.m. May 22.  He had been in poor health for several months.

 

The pastor, son of Christoph and Natalie (Viehamann) Boettcher, was born may 5, 1885, in St. Leo Township, Minneola, Minn.  He received his education at Concordia College, St. Paul; Concordia College, Milwaukee; his seminary education at Concordia seminary in St. Louis, Mo.

 

His first charge in the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, was at Weelmarrain in Etre Rois, Argentina, South America, for 7 ½ years; and then for seven years he served in a rural Wausau church.  In 1942 he served in the Red Springs Indian Mission near Shawano, where he remained for 19 years. His last charge was in Deer Park.

 

He was officially retired in 1957.  Since then he was a supply pastor at Auburndale, Arpin, Whitelsey, Chelsea, and Amherst.  He moved to Greenwood in October, 1960, to serve the Trinity Lutheran Church and has lived here since.

 

He was married January 10, 1912, in Milwaukee to Frieda Schullenburg. Survivors are his wife, four sons, Armin of Winona, Minn., Roland of Thorp, Louis of Easton, Pa., and the Rev. F. Waldo Boettcher of Escondido, Calif. ; four grandchildren; a brother, Albert of Altenburg, Mo.; three sisters, Mrs. Frank (Anna) Kruse of Alma, Mo., Mrs. Reinholdt (Natalie) Mueller of Watertown, and Miss Emma Boettcher of New Haven, Ind.


Funeral services were held Monday from Trinity Lutheran Church in Greenwood. The Rev. Daniel Zielske, assisted by the Rev. J. H. Nau of Shawano, was in charge. Buri9al was made in Wausau, where the Rev. E. Bertermann of the Trinity Church in Wausau gave a sermonette, and the Rev. Mr. Zielske officiated.
